arranged for viola da gamba by Paolo Pandolfo. Pandolfos viola da gamba transcriptions of Bachs Cello Suites have been legendary since the great success of his CD on Glossa (GCD P30405). On the one hand, this arrangement is 100 % gambistic and, on the other hand, largely reveals Bachs hidden polyphony. The edition imitates the musical notation of the Marais manuscript, a wonderful combination of elegance and practical rationality that calligrapher Mauro Zennaro impressively attained with painstaking craftsmanship. The result is a unique edition with an appendix in which the six sarabandes are exemplarily embellished, which in turn is interesting also for cellists.
